My Thrifty Sister Valentine's Day

I have a few fun makes for Valentine's Day.  I haven't been able to log into my account for a couple weeks, so now it's time to catch up with this fun LOVE Holiday.
I was so excited to figure out a way to make a heart with straight cuts, I have a jig saw but love my chop saw and it's so much easier to cut straight.

Metal + Wood Crosses

I found the best store called RE-Store for Habitat for humanity.  I went in looking for drawer knobs and found boxes of door plates, hinges, washers, all sorts of metal scrap and I saw this.
I had key blanks and assorted metal buttons, and bottle caps. I believe the middle is a shower drain.

My second one I used a metallic corrugated paper underneath the metal pieces.

Wood + Metal #3  I gave away on my website for liking my site. I had an old frame and a garden water valve for the center, an old watch band and drawer pull on the top.
Very fun to make alot of screws to insert.

I didn't get a good photo before I hung it on the wall @ Rusty Saturday the shop where I sell my decor.  I will take a better photo this week.

Button Lampshade + Insulator + table leg lamp

I starting an "I had this... and made this" group on photos on my facebook page. This is number 1.

I saw a email this week from Hobby Lobby  the subject line was "Resolve to Create"  that is going to be my theme for 2014.  I resolve to be creative, make things, dream of new ideas, see things that inspire a new idea.  See things out of piles of whimsy.  I have always had a gift of seeing what could be, I can see an idea completed in my mind as I work different ways to complete it.  Sometimes even better than I saw it in my mind.  I love take a Pinterest idea and make it my own, as I re-create it.

I saw this on Pinterest and loved it.  then I began stringing beads and after the third string, I knew it would take alot of buttons and time so I switched to my version.

I started with what I had ( see first photo)
a table leg
jar of buttons
cut a 6" block of wood
red paint
insulator and battery light.

I also made one with white buttons for and hung some IKEA clips to hang photos.

My Thrifty Christmas

I have so many pinned ideas for Christmas, I never know where to begin.  So I searched through my garage and found items I could use.  A pile of reclaimed lumber with 45 degree cuts + 30 degree cuts became Rustic Wood Christmas Trees here are a few I am taking to Rusty Saturday

I've left them plain I think people will have so many ideas how to decorate their own trees.

Junk in the Trunk [JITT for all you cool cats]

I did it!!! After last Aprils show where I knew I had found my home, I moved into my space #100 Friday afternoon following a long line of vendors doing the same thing.  All set up with a very dear friend who helped me [Thank you Shelagh] I went home and worried....
 Will I sell anything?
Am I good enough?
Do I belong?

Then my husband set a dollar goal for me I thought was unreachable and I told him I would be happy to break even for the space rental and rental van.  [I really wouldn't of been]  Well I am happy to say I met my husbands goal +$6.00

Through the day the JITT crew were so helpful.  I had a friend [Karen] join me and I think by next May, she will have a space of her own.  I know JITT is a place for ideas and my two best ideas were my Industrial Christmas Tree with a upside down tomato cage + metal pipe + flange + IKEA clips

I found an idea on Pinterest I wanted to make and went through several ideas and ended up with the tomato cage.  The small one is easy to bend and create.  The big one is a pain to bend, I used a heat gun to warm metal prongs and then with to clamps and all my weight I got myself a 90 degree bend.  I have to say it took me three trees to get one right, but I love them.
Small cage,  check out that yardstick star I made with 6" pieces of yardstick and nuts and bolts.
My next photographed item was my book tree.  Very simple except shopping for books and opening the jacket cover to find the right color book.  I made a double 2" x 4" block as a trunk.  No books were harmed in the making of this tree. :)

Here's my space.  I have to say after the day My Thrifty Sister became My Tired Sister but then Monday after I back to making items that I tookd to Rusty Saturday the new shop I'm selling my merchandise in.

Thanks JITT Ladies, I loved it and hope you'll have me back again.

Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market w/ a map to my space.

This Saturday I will fulfill a goal to be a Vendor in the Mother Ship of Vintage Markets.  When I went to Junk in the Trunk last April it was if the clouds parted and a beam of light shone down on me and I found myself counting down the days till registration would open for the Nov. 9th Show.  I quickly started making merchandise you can see some of my dreams on my Pinterest Page.  I started as Summer Vacation Ideas that quickly turned from an "I think I can make that" to an "I made that".  I stepped off the dreaming porch and went to work creating, so much so that all my wall plaques that said "Dream" are now "Create"
I love it and now this week I will walk through the doors as a vendor with My Thrifty Sister and I will be in space #100. I have my merchandise, my business cards, bags, display pieces, truck rented and square ( the credit card swiper) ready to go.
Come and find me Saturday and if you like my facebook page I will be giving away a cute broom Scarecrow after the show I will randomly choose a name from the likes and let them know to come get their scarecrow.  Here he is.
So as I finish up any last detail know I am fulfulling a dream, that became a creation. :)
